Photogrammetry

The course is designed to give the students a broad view of the field of photogrammetry and image interpretation and introduces students to aerial photographs and other remote sensing acquired data, stereovision and the geometry of the stereo model (aerotriangulation). It discusses Photogrammetric applications, and how they relate to surveying and reviews terrestrial, large scale and remote sensing applications to digital elevation models and orthophotos relevant for Geoinformatics. Major parts of the course are based on the current issue of "Photogrammetry – Geometry from Images and Laser Scans" (2nd edition, 2007, de Gruyter) by Prof. Karl Kraus.

Dr. Camillo Ressl studied at the TU-Wien Geodesy and sucessfully completed his doctorate with the topic: „Geometry,Constraints and Computation of the Trifocal Tensor”. Since his graduation Dr. Ressl has worked at the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, University of Technology Vienna as a universitiy teacher and in different research projects Dr Ressel developed the Inversion, Multiplication) UNIGIS module "Photogrammetry" and instructs it in both English and German.

Learning Methods
The module is delivered in form of an instructed self-study that is based on explorative learning process and process. Theoretical concepts are complemented with practice oriented examples demonstrated with help of multimedia elements. A discussion forum is used for communication among students and the instructor. Upon completion of the module students are requested to evaluate the module, which is a part of our quality assurance policy and practice.

Leica PhotogrammetricSuite (LPS), ERDAS-Imagine; Photogrammetry – Geometry from Images and Laser Scans" (2nd edition, 2007, de Gruyter) by Prof. Karl Kraus is used as a textbook in this module..

Assessment and Grading
Instructor assessment reflects student’s achievements in this module and is conducted through assessing module assignments. This assessment result counts towards the academic qualification. Exercises are to enforce students’ knowledge skills whereas and quizzes provide feedback to a student based on availability of correct answers. These should be completed to allow students to assess their own progress and are not included in the module assessment.

    • Centre for Geoinformatics, Cochin (a unit of All India Institute for Local Self-Governance, Mumbai) offered UNIGIS professional diploma in classroom based full-time mode from 2009 to 2011, thereafter it was integrated under UNIGIS@India umbrella.
  • UNIGIS @ GIS Institute, Noida
    • GIS Institute of the GIS Development company (now Geospatial Media and Communications offered UNIGIS professional diploma in classroom based full-time mode from 2007 to 2010, thereafter it was integrated under UNIGIS@India umbrella.
